Many Thanks...and a Gift Card Holder

Hi again everyone. First I have to say Thank You to those of you who wrote me such great e-mails of support in response to my Christmas crisis. Your words of kindness and encouragement really touched my heart and helped me feel better. And you're right, I have many other things to look forward to and be thankful for. And in the grand scheme of things it is very minor. I mean after all it's not like I have some life threatening illness or can't put food on my table...let me get some perspective here! I just hate to spoil any surprise, especially Christmas. But I'm feeling much better about it and my son hasn't mentioned it again, so I'm sure it will all turn out fine.

He had a great birthday yesterday, by the way. We went to the Indiana State Museum, per his request, and it actually was really fun! I had never been there before and was expecting some boring exhibits about the political history of Indiana or something. But it actually had a great variety of things to see, hear, and interact with. Lots of authentic memorabilia of days gone by, etc. And they had a special exhibit about chocolate...now who wouldn't love that?! Then we went out to his favorite Chinese restaurant and back home for presents and cake. And at least I got to see his look of surprise with these presents because they were already wrapped when the present seeing fiasco went down!

Anyway, here is a gift card holder I made for the kids' teachers for Christmas. The inside holds the gift card and slides all the way out. All supplies to make it were from SU.

Just in case I don't get a chance to create and post anything again before the holiday I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas. Please be safe, stay warm, and enjoy being with the greatest gifts you have...each other. Mary

Christmas Oops!

Well, just about the worst thing that could happen at Christmas time did last night. My son saw his Christmas presents! And not just a few of them through the side of a bag or something. Oh no, he saw ALL of them... UP CLOSE!! Like he even picked them up and everything!! I couldn't believe it and I'm still depressed about it. We've been hiding the presents in the laundry room downstairs in the basement under a comforter. And the kids have been forbidden to go in there and aren't really allowed in the basement without an adult anyway. Well, today is my son's birthday so I was down there yesterday sorting out which gifts we were going to give him for his birthday and which ones would be for Christmas. Then I wrapped the birthday ones and decided to leave the other ones in their respective piles so I could wrap them later that night...without covering them back up. First mistake! I just figured we were all going to be so busy with other things last evening that no one would even think of going downstairs. So then after the kids came home from school I left them with my husband so I could go out to finish up a few last minute gifts. When I came home my husband dreadingly gave me the bad news. When he was upstairs playing with our daughter in her room our son (who is 9 today) went into the basement, into the laundry room, and looked at all the gifts that were displayed out for all to see. My husband only found out when our son came upstairs and said "Dad, come downstairs with me. I want to show you all these toys I found in the basement!" He said his heart sank. He tried to pass it off as nothing and quickly changed the subject. When he told me I cried. I felt like the joy of Christmas was sucked right out of me. Christmas is my favorite holiday and I LOVE giving gifts. Especially when I know the person is just going to really like it. And I felt like now there will be no excitement and anticipation for my son on Christmas Eve and morning. After all, that's the best thing about being a kid is wondering if Santa is going to come and what he's going to bring you. And now it's all ruined. I'm just heartbroken. I decided to talk to our son about it. I told him that Santa has been really busy and has a lot of toys to carry around this year. So he asked Mommy and Daddy if we would keep these toys for him until he comes on Christmas Eve. But now that he has snooped and found them the rule is that all the presents have to go back. And Santa will have to decide whether he will bring any of them back on Christmas. I know that's cruel but I felt like I needed to restore some of that anticipation and wonder for him. I also threatened him with his life practically that he not say a word to his sister about what he saw (because he said he saw all of her gifts too). I just need to concentrate on the fact that I still have my daughter and husband's gifts to look forward to. Also, my son is autistic, and although he is high functioning he doesn't always think about things like other kids do. So I really think that he'll still be excited about Christmas and opening the presents because he'll just think "Great, now I can play with them!" So hopefully my Christmas spirit will be restored and we'll all still have a nice Christmas morning.
Lesson learned...always leave the gifts covered up, put a lock on the door, and always know where your kids are!

It's Been So Long!!!

It has been soooooo long since my last post, 2 weeks to be exact!!! I have been so busy doing all kinds of Christmas related things: cards, projects, parties, decorating, shopping, wrapping, baking, making gingerbread houses, working, housework, helping with homework, etc, etc. I've made lots of cards and things but just haven't had time to post them all. And I don't really have much time now either (that's why I'm not going to describe the supplies with these projects-sorry-just something for you to look at. :)) Take care and I hope you're enjoying the holiday season! Fun Chick-n-Scratch Projects

Hi there everyone! I hope you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving! We've had a wonderful past 5 days. The kids and I were off school and work from Wednesday - Sunday and my husband was off Thursday - Sunday. We did things like shop, go to the movies, had Thanksgiving at Grandma and Grandpa's, then again at our house for just us, put up the Christmas tree and all the other decorations, listened to Christmas music, watched football, and played in the snow. I even had fun doing laundry because we bought a new washer and dryer! Good times, good times. :)
These are some really fun projects I made from the Chicknscratch blog (follow link on my sidebar and look under her Stamp Academy for video instructions). I will be making a bunch of them to take to a party we're going to this weekend. Give them a try...they're super fun!!!

Christmas Wish List Binder

I got the idea for this from the blog Chicknscratch (follow the link on my sidebar) but I made a few changes. She had hers on a ring, but I thought that might be too loose and floppy in a purse. So I put mine together with my Bind-It-All. I also added tabs at the bottom of the pages to make them easier to turn. There is a page for each family member with their name at the top, a page that says family, and one that says friends. It was very fun to make and would be really useful I think. I made this one for a friend of mine and will give it to her at church tomorrow. I'll let you know what she thinks.

Trying to stay warm here...it's rainy and will be in the lower 30's by the end of the day. Burrrrr!

Autumn Leaves

Hello there! Hope you're having a good day. I made this card yesterday evening while my daughter also made a card. She is only in first grade so it is probably only pretty to her mother's eyes so I won't bother showing it (besides, she wouldn't let me :)).

A Quick Little Project

Hi all. I just got back from Wal Mart where I found these yummy treats. As you can see they are from Ghirardelli and they're called Peppermint Bark. Oh my Lordie Bee they are wonderful! I thought they might make great little gifts so I got to work on them right away. The scallop square punch from SU doesn't quite fit over them so I had to use a white background. But next I'm going to try making a bigger scallop square using my scallop edge punch from SU. If you have the square scallops Nestabilities dies you would probably be all set. Then I'm also going to try just putting a band of CS or DP around the middle and let the white and red striped edges stick out. I will post those later when I get a chance to do them. The image is from one of SU's hostess sets "Deer Friends". See ya, Mary

Anniversary Card

It's Friday! Don't ya love it?! My kids just got on the bus so I have the whole day to look forward to now. :) I wanted to share this card with you. Last Tuesday was our 13th Wedding Anniversary! And this is the card I made for my husband. Can you believe that after making cards for the past 4 years or so this is the first one I've ever made for him? That's terrible I know, but I always felt like it was really just like giving a card to myself because after he looked at it for a few days he would probably just give it back to me to keep in my sample stash. Anyway, he really liked it. (Sorry that the photo is a little blurry or grainy. Something is going on with my computer I think.) We postponed celebrating our Anniversary until tomorrow night so we could go out on a "date"- just the 2 of us. We are just going to dinner and a movie, but we always have fun when we go out so I'm looking forward to it.

Happy Sunday

Hello everyone. I hope you are all having a good weekend. We've had a great one so far. On Friday we went to the movies to see Madagascar 2--good, but I liked the first one better--where my kids were chosen to give a review of the the movie for a local kid's site. After they gave their 2 thumbs up they received a large stuffed Melman and Gloria. They were very excited! Then we went out to eat. Saturday morning we went to a pancake breakfast at their school. It's fun for them because the teachers are the ones cooking and serving, and it's a great fundraiser for the school. Then my husband worked outside in the cold all day mowing the lawn for the last time this season, he put away the patio furniture and all the other things you do to get ready for the winter, and he also cleaned out the garage and laundry/storage room in the basement. He was a tired man after supper! My son spent the afternoon swimming at one of our high schools with his cub scout den for 3 hours. He was also a tired little man after supper!

After church this morning we made a bee-line to Wal Mart to buy the newly released KungFu Panda DVD--LOVE this movie! While I was going down the main isle there I was filled with joy...the spirit of the season burst open inside of me. There was a huge Christmas tree in the center and then row after row of seasonal goodies like French's Fried onions, cream of mushroom soup, bags of stuffing, cans of green beans, pumpkin pies, cool whip, etc. I know it's probably bad that food has such a big meaning to me but I can't help it. It reminds me of all the Thanksgivings at my Grandma's house along with the Christmas's at my parent's house. It fills me with warmth and happiness. Also, I LOVE giving gifts at Christmas. There's nothing like finding just the right gift for someone and watching them light up when they open it. The 1st of November until the 1st of January is definitely my favorite part of the year!

It's chilly and gray here, so the rest of today will be spent snuggled under a blanket watching our new movie and cheering on our Colts. And then eating a yummy ham dinner. Love this time of year!!! :)

Hi all! Well my first week back to work is done, thank goodness. It was a short week because I took Monday off to Christmas shop but it still seemed long. But I cleared my calendar for today so I could spend all my time in my craft room (well, in the laundry room and the craft room- but that's ok.) Here's a card I just finished. I'm Baaaaaack!

Hi everyone, I'm back from vacation! And what a wonderful time we had! Disney World was even more amazing than I remember as a child and my kids loved it too. I can't count then number of characters we met, the food was awesome, and the weather was great. Saint Petersburg was just as fun...great weather, good food, and we loved playing in the ocean, laying on the beach, and watching dolphins. The kids were crying when it was time to go, so I guess they had fun!! :)

We returned Thursday night, I was busy grocery shopping and doing Halloween things yesterday, and today I'll be getting the kids ready to visit their grandparents for the night while my husband and I go to a costume party at the house of one of the doctors I work with. I've also been trying to get through all of the e-mails I received while I was gone, all 250 of them! Most of them are posts from the blogs I subscribe to. I'm sorry to say that I just decided to delete most of them because I figured it would take me forever to go through them all and it was taking away from my crafting time. So I just went through some of my most favorties. I'm hoping to get some card time in there somewhere but if not, I hope you'll hang in there with me for a few more days before I get something creative done for you. I hope you're all doing well! Mary

No Posts for a While

Hi everyone! I hope you all have been doing well. Just wanted to let you know that I will be leaving for vacation this Friday, finally! So I won't be posting for a while. I was hoping to get something done in my craft room this week but I've been too busy getting things ready for the trip (and trying to get my kids and myself healthy again so we can enjoy our vacation). :( I hope you all have a great 2 weeks! Don't Adjust Your Computers

Everyone, do not adjust your computers...this is not in black and white. The colors I used here are black, gray, and white because those are the colors of my son's football team--the Raiders. This is a gift card holder for my son's football coach so I had to make them in the team's colors! In person they don't look this boring, honestly. This holder was fun to make and has a very substantial feel with a professional look on the inside. I followed the tutorial on Stamping with Roxy's website: http://www.stampingwithroxy.typepad.com/. Follow this link and look up the Gift Card Tutorial. With a Christmas theme they would be great to give out for the holidays. Give it a try!

I Scream for Ice Cream!

Hi there everyone. Did you all make a card on World Card Making Day? I sure did and here it is. Isn't this ice cream cone just the cutest?! I make the scoops with my scallop circle punch and rounding the top with my Creative Memory circle cutting system. And my favorite part is the cone. I cut out a cone shape and then embossed it with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. It looks so real, don't you think? Then I added a little glitter to make it look frosty. Yum! :)

Scrapbooking on the Wall

Check this out! Isn't it just the neatest thing?! It is a framed, magnetic, changeable scrapbook page from Creative Memories. The background is magnetic and it comes with 4 very strong magnets which can hold photos, card stock, notes, etc. It also comes with the ribbon attached at the top and across the middle, as well and the little clothespins. You can hang it on the wall using the knob it came with or place it on a table using the fold down stand in the back. For mine I cut a piece of DP to fit in the background, cut out the Happy Halloween which was accented with CS to hang by the clothespins, and added the photos (from last year's Halloween--don't you just love my daughter's red wig?). After Halloween I can change the theme to Christmas, then birthdays, etc. It comes in two sizes and three colors. This one is the smaller of the two and it cost $35.00. I just love it and will get years of use out of it.

Here's another cute guy from Rubber Soul. His name is Ricky Raccoon and you can see by the name of his book that he's trying to pick out a really good spell to play a trick on you. :)

Finally...a post!!!

Oh my gosh it's been so long since I've posted a card here! I'm so sorry. I subscribe to a ton of blogs and look forward to looking at their new creations everyday. So, even though I don't know most of you, I feel bad that I haven't been sharing any projects with you and given you something to look at (although I'm sure you have had lots of other sites to look at instead). My son's football team made it into the playoffs, which is great for them but that means one more week of this madness for us. So things will quiet down after that and I should have some regular stamping time. Except after next week I have to start packing and getting things ready for our Florida trip. 1 week at Disney and 5 days in St. Petersburg...ahhh I can't wait!!! :) Please pray for good weather for us. Weather, that's the terrible part, you have no control over it. You can plan every aspect of your trip and have everything worked out just right, but if the weather is bad all is ruined. So again, please say a little prayer for no hurricanes or storms.

Alright, on to the card! This is a birthday card I made for a friend super quick last Monday night. I was at her house Monday night for a Creative Memories party and found out it was her birthday the next day. I felt terrible that I didn't know this. I mean, making cards for birthdays...that's what I do! That's what this hobby is for, for Pete's sake! So after I got home and put my kids to bed I rushed downstairs to make her a card. But I had to wait until she received it before I could share it with you. Hope you like it as much as she did. Mary

Sorry--No Posts Yet :(

I'm so sorry I haven't posted anything this past weekend. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to during the week either. We were busy this weekend going to the dentist, out to eat, shopping for pants (since it will turn cold this week), had football game, and went to an Oktoberfest party. Then after the party my husband and I packed up all of my china and stemware because I sold my dining room set. We bought that beautiful furniture 11 years ago because I wanted it more than anything, and we spent a pretty penny for it too I might add. And then what happened...we used it maybe 5 times in those 11 years. What a waste! So, being the responsible adult that I'm trying to be I decided that it would be a better use of space if I would sell it and turn that into my craft room and turn what was my craft room into a play room for the kids. They really need a place other than their rooms to relax and spend time together--plus, it gets them out of our bedroom since that seems to be where they congregate to watch TV and drag in their toys. And another benefit is that we will be using the money from the furniture to buy new carpet for the house. So it's really a win win for everyone. Therefore, Sunday after church and after they came to take the furniture I spent the rest of the day moving all of my craft stuff downstairs and all of the kid's stuff into their new room. I feel like I went up and down the stairs about 50 times! So that didn't leave any time to play. Hopefully I can do something this week. I hope you all have a good week! Mary

An Invitation

I know this card is pretty simple in it's design and layout but I needed to make several of them, so when mass producing... simple is best. I am having a Stampin'Up party at my house this Saturday and this is an invite I made for a few of my neighbors. I get nervous when inviting people to a party because #1: I'm not a salesperson. I hate to be pushy and I don't want people to think that I am. #2: I'm afraid of rejection. I know it's not a personal thing when someone says they can't come, but I can't help feeling a little bad. I would have made the worst boy. Having to ask a girl out on a date must be terrifying! I would have ended up alone for sure. :) I just have to keep focused on the aspect that I just want to share what I like to do in hopes that they might like it too. Wish me luck!

What a Difference a Small Detail Can Make

I was looking at the card from my last post and I felt that it needed something. I liked the colors and the layout, and I wanted to keep it simple. Then paper piercing came to mind. I know it's a small thing but I really think it gives the card that something extra. I chose to show it to you again so as to remind you that it is in the small details where something good becomes something special. Mary

This is the first card I've made with my new Pocket Silhouettes stamp set from SU. It is now being offered at 20% off along with some other great stamp sets. Not only do these sets look great and are on sale, but they are also die cut. So there's no cutting! Just pop them out and adhere them to the wooden block. Love it! All of SU's new stamp sets will be made this way. Great idea!

Bewitched

Sorry it's been so long since my last post. As I've said a million times already this school year, I've been so busy. It sounds like a lame excuse but it's true. Also, my husband's grandmother died a few days ago and we've been dealing with that. My husband is 40 years old and this is the first grandparent of his to die. It's actually the first close relative from his entire family to pass away. It's hard for me to believe because I haven't had a grandparent alive since I was a teenager. He is doing alright with it now but I worry about him at the actual funeral. GG (as we all called her) was kind of the hub of the entire family. She was the reason we all got together for family gatherings and such. She was so special to everyone in his family. Very sad, but she had been very ill lately and was ready to go. So it's really a blessing.

On to the card. So how many of you remember the show Bewitched? I was very young when it was on but I do remember it. That's what I think of when I see this image from MFT. With this card I got to use my new scallop punch from SU. You have to get this punch! It makes it so easy to get your scallops punched evenly. I also used a clip from SU's new clip assortment. They are so cute and just the right size.

Halloween Goody Box

This is the first box that I've made from scratch, meaning I didn't have any measurements to go by. I kind of guessed at how big I wanted it. And after making a few mistakes this is what I came up with. Over the last few months, making several of these kinds of boxes, I've noticed that they are all constructed basically the same, they just have different lengths or widths that will make them different sizes. Pretty easy really. This is actually one of the projects I'm going to have my guests do at my party next week. The only change will be the image. I'm waiting for the Halloween stamp set I ordered from the new SU Holiday Mini Catalog.

Basic Black and White

Hey! I hope you're all enjoying your weekend! Yesterday was a long but fun day for me. I attended my friend's baby shower which was very nice. She loved the scrapbook by the way. She seemed very touched and that made the long hours of making it all worth while. Then I hurried to my co-worker's daughter's wedding. This was a very long but beautiful ceremony and the bride was gorgeous. Then on to the reception where I was introduced to Scottish line dancing. After watching a special dance involving the bride & groom and some of their family members anyone who wanted came out onto the dance floor to try it out. Very fun! I had a great time and more importantly the bride & groom seemed very happy.

More Pictures of the Scrapbook

The Much Anticipated Scrapbook!!!

To many of you this scrapbook may not seem like a big deal to you. But to me it represents 2 solid days of work and exhaustive creative energy. You see, I don't scrapbook much at all. I love them, don't get me wrong. It's just that it takes me so long to do one page that I need a nap when I'm done. With cards you have a much smaller area to work with, you don't really need much and it can look great (as in my previous duckie card), and you can always just copy what someone else has done but to someone who doesn't know any better it looks original. Snip, snap and you're done! So you can see why I love this little scrapbook and almost don't want to give it up. Also, I actually made the pages and bound this one myself using my Bind-it-all. So it really is my "from scratch" creation. I can't really tell you exactly every company that made every little piece and embellishment in it, but almost everything was purchased at Archiver's.

I hope my friend likes it. I will be nice for her because all she has to do is crop the photos, put them on the pages, and write a little note and she's done. I can't wait to see her open it! :)

Baby Duckies

Hi all! Hope you're doing well. Things here are busy but good. I have a few fun things planned for the weekend. A friend from work is having a baby shower on Saturday. She is the one who has been trying to have a baby for about 2 years and finally, through several rounds of fertility, is pregnant and is due in about 6 weeks. She will be a great mom and I'm so happy for her. This is the card I made for her. Simple but cute. Tomorrow I will finally post the scrapbook I made for her several weeks ago. Make sure you take a look...it's really cute!!! :)
